Away from Home for the Holidays
Time after time our traveler reviews have reiterated: our Trip Experience Leaders make the whole trip. Friendly and curious, they are also travelers at heart. Last week our Boston office was brightened by the warmth of Dominic Youé, Trip Experience Leader for Scotland Revealed: Legends, Lochs, Highland Landscapes, who made the journey across the pond to visit family for the holidays.
Dominic Youé—a Trip Experience Leader for our Scotland Revealed: Legends, Lochs, Highland Landscapes.
This is Dominic’s third visit to Boston, but his first to our main office. Another first was taking in Celtics and Bruins games—with two wins! "I’d never been able to see a basketball or hockey game before and loved it! American sports are such a spectacle with all the cheerleaders and fan cams and stuff. Really great fun."
Dominic popped by the Grand Circle Corporation’s headquarters in the Boston Seaport to have a reunion with Megan Mullin—one of our Senior Copywriters.
Senior Copywriter Megan Mullin befriended Dominic when he was her guide on Scotland Revealed this past April. Their group explored the legendary Highlands, cruised Loch Lomond (with eyes peeled for Nessie!) and met fluffy Highland cow calves, along with other highlights including a private bagpipe presentation. As this was her first solo experience Megan was a little nervous, but by the Farewell Dinner singing "Auld Lang Syne" she was surrounded by new friends.
Dominic remarked on the similarities between Boston and Scotland: "Boston actually really reminds me of Glasgow quite a lot—the friendliness of the people coupled with the love of sports… People have been so welcoming to me and so keen to find out about what has brought me to the city. [Our travelers] always say the same about people they meet in Glasgow too."
He also noted the similarities in architecture as he toured the Freedom Trail, Beacon Hill, and China Town. Boston is one of the oldest cities in the United States, with the Granary Burying Ground founded in 1660 located right on Tremont Street. "I swear I could hear Paul Revere heralding my arrival as I got close to his grave!"
Dominic’s recommendation for a day off in Glasgow? "One of my favorite places in Glasgow is the Necropolis or ‘City of the Dead.’ Perhaps I’m just morbid, but I do find that graveyard(s) and how we treat our dead tells us a lot about the people who live in a place. Oh, we also have a Glasgow Celtic soccer team like your basketball team!"
Dominic saw lots of iconic Boston landmarks while he was in town.
