During your trip, you will have the opportunity to join optional tours to further your discoveries—all of which are noted below. Most of these tours can only be reserved onsite with your Trip Experience Leader, however due to limited space and other special requirements, some optional tours must be reserved before your departure from the U.S. If this trip has optional tours that need to be purchased in advance, they will be noted with a disclaimer below.

This optional tour begins with lunch at a local restaurant in Cusco. Then, we'll take a short drive to the surrounding hills to visit Sacsayhuaman, an important Incan archaeological site. Located on a hilltop overlooking the city and adjacent valley, the Incas built Sacsayhuaman from huge stones, some weighing nearly 300 tons. Massive stone terraces line the site, along with ruins of large structures whose origins are, like much of what the Incas left behind, shrouded in mystery.

This full-day optional tour departs the hotel after breakfast on a journey outside Quito to Papallacta Hot Springs, a spa resort located high in the Andes adjacent to the Cayambe-Coca Ecological Reserve. Here, we can enjoy use of the spa's eight thermally-heated pools with waters ranging in temperatures from 86° F to 158° F. You can also reserve any of the massages and other treatments available at the spa.
You may also with to participate in a nature hike in the surrounding cloud forest, which is home to a wealth of flora and fauna. Lunch is included at the restaurant at the spa. After lunch, we'll return to Quito, arriving at our hotel late this afternoon.
