Mongolian Falconry & Horseback Archery Tour

Day 6 | $115 per person

dbc3c3c0141f42dfbe0fb401014af809

Depart your camp this afternoon to learn about falconry, an ancient art that involves training birds of prey to hunt in partnership with humans. In Mongolia, this tradition endures in its purest form—on horseback, across vast open plains, with both eagles and falcons. Meeting a master falconer is a rare opportunity to witness an ancient form of wilderness cooperation that has endured for over 4,000 years. Each summer, a young raptor is captured, trained with voice and food cues for hunting, then released in winter as an honored partner, not a pet. This tradition combines three extraordinary skills: training eagles and falcons for real hunting, riding across rugged terrain on horseback, and shooting a bow while working in harmony with the bird. Seeing human, horse, and raptor move as one is a living link to Mongolia’s nomadic heritage—a breathtaking display of skill, trust, and survival.

Please note: This optional tour must be purchased prior to departure, requiring a minimum of 8 bookings to operate.

Learn about traditional Tsam dance during a visit to nearby Dashchoilon Monastery—the first Buddhist monastery to introduce Tsam dancing to Mongolia. A masked and costumed performance, Tsam combines music, storytelling, and religious symbolism to bless and purify the community while driving away evil spirits, and is traditionally performed by monks.
