The Leader in Small Groups on the Road Less Traveled Never more than 10-16 travelers—guaranteed!

Small Groups, Big Discoveries

When you discover the world with OAT, you’ll journey off the beaten path to the places the big tour groups miss—and enjoy an intimate, discovery-filled adventure filled with personal connections, shared experiences, and treasured memories. By limiting our group size to 10-16 travelers on our Land Adventures, guaranteed, (just 16-25 on our Small Ship Adventures, guaranteed), you not only get to see more of the world, you experience it. Join us, and discover the OAT ‘small group’ difference …

Get closer to nature and wildlife

Our small group size makes it easier for us to veer off the main roads on our way to remote villages, ancient ruins, and each country’s hidden corners. Along the way, you get to enjoy a much more intimate and memorable view of nature and wildlife. And since we’re not restricted to the main roads like the big tour buses, we can take advantage of our local Trip Leader’s expertise to veer off the well-worn paths to discover the most picturesque nature locales or the best spots for wildlife viewing. And using expert local guides ensures that we’ll always discover the best spots for the ultimate wildlife viewing experience.

Make authentic cultural connections

To really understand the spirit of a country, you need to meet the people who live there. And when you travel in a small group, you’ll do just that, as you immerse yourself in local culture every step of way, meeting people where they work, shop, and live. We’ve carefully crafted each itinerary to make the most of our small group advantage—that’s why we offer a home-hosted lunch or dinner on every one of our OAT adventures.

Journey off the beaten path

To see the world like the locals, you have to travel like the locals do. And since we travel in a nimble, small group it’s much easier for us to take the roads—and waterways—less traveled. So you may do a little walking, but you’ll also hop on a rickshaw in Thailand, a camel in Egypt, a canoe in Botswana, a raft in Costa Rica, or a Zodiac boat in the Galápagos—whatever it takes to reach the heart and soul of your destination. Because of our small group advantage, we try to include local transportation whenever possible during your adventure. So expect the unexpected while you enjoy an exciting balance of discovery, adventure, and lots of fun.

Active choices for spirited OAT adventurers

During our adventures all over the world, we’ll embark on many walking tours to visit local villages and explore ancient ruins. To get the most out of your adventure, you should be able to walk about three miles unassisted each day. On many of our adventures, you’ll have swimming opportunities (weather permitting) or the chance to enjoy other exhilarating activities (but always with an alternative if you don’t wish to participate). To learn more about the activity levels of each adventure, consult the “Is this adventure right for you?” section for that trip.
