A note from independent filmmaker David Conover on why he chose this film:
Federico Mayor Zaragoza, former Director-General of UNESCO, described Samarkand, Uzbekistan as follows: “There are such names in the world, which unwillingly lead people to the world of dreams.” The magnificence of this ancient city is difficult to absorb without imagining its resonant past. Samarkand is one of the oldest, grandest cities of Central Asia, having prospered as a prominent location along the Silk Road. This film captures the awe-inspiring features of the city by focusing on the mosaic designs of ancient mausoleums and madrasahs in the town square.
