A note from independent filmmaker David Conover on why he chose this film:
Rudy Maxa ventures through the highlands and lowlands of Scotland in this episode of Smart Travels. He packs in a lot, too, showing us a few of the great landmarks and attributes that engender Scottish pride. We visit Edinburgh Castle, where we learn that the hammerbeam ceiling of the Great Hall was constructed without a single nail. We hear from kilt maker Howie Nicholsby that while a tartan is a plaid, a plaid is not always a tartan. We visit the birthplace of golf, go clay shooting, try our hand at falconry, and even go on a whiskey distillery tour. In the midst of this packed visit, we never lose sight of Scotland’s greatest distinction: its natural beauty. “Like a highland rogue emerging from the mist, Scotland catches you off guard,” says Rudy. “It’s an alluring, eerie landscape.”
