ReelEarth: Welcome to Libbyland, Israel

Posted on 12/11/2018 12:00:00 AM in What We’re Watching

A note from independent filmmaker David Conover on why he chose this film:

Libby is a rising fashion and lifestyle social media star, with viral videos seen by millions. Her husband Yaakov is a great dancer and the attentive father of their six children. He is also the youngest orthodox rabbi in Israel. How can a sect of Judaism known for rejecting the secular world embrace social media, music, and dancing? Meet the Nachimovsky family. Their unabashed and expressive individuality doesn’t end with Libby’s bright dresses or Yuval’s rock star dance moves. It is also reflected in how they interact with people, starting with the filmmaker Yuval Erez and this surprisingly intimate portrait from the ReelEarth Collection. The family lives by the idea that everyone they meet is defined by who they are as an individual—not by religion, race, or gender. They dance the line between faith and an increasingly complicated modern world. The result is profoundly inspiring and entertaining. Watch it!

Produced by Josh Povec & Scott Sell
