M/V Corinthian

The M/V Corinthian is an ocean-cruising vessel with navigational, communications, and safety equipment, and is ice-strengthened to be safe enough to ply the waters of Antarctica’s Drake Passage. This ship was acquired by Grand Circle Cruise Line in 2014. It was built in 1990 and refurbished in 2009. The Corinthian is 290 ft. long and carries 98 passengers—four groups of no more than 25 travelers, each with its own expert, resident Trip Leader.

Each of the Corinthian’s 49 cabins—which measure at least 215 sq. ft.—has portholes, a window (some with partially obstructed views), or a balcony. The cabins have a sitting area, queen-size bed (convertible to twin beds), a closet, flat-screen TV, a DVD/CD player, telephone, mini-refrigerator, and a private bath with shower, hair dryer, and toiletries.

The ship’s public areas offer ample opportunity to mingle with your fellow like-minded American travelers. Onboard, you can enjoy the dining room, two lounges, a boutique, a Sun Deck with hot tub, and outdoor cafe. The ship also has an elevator that serves all five passenger decks and a small medical clinic.

Before joining one of our Small Ship Adventures aboard the Corinthian, there are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Tendering: On some trips, you will need to use a tender, or Zodiac craft, to reach the shore in some ports.
  • Wet landings: When you tender to shore in certain destinations, your landing will be “wet,” which means you’ll need to step into water up to ten inches deep and wade ashore. For this purpose you may want to wear waterproof clothing, including tall rubber boots.
  • Gangways: When you are docked right at the pier, the gangway incline may be steep.
  • General small ship cruising: Weather conditions and tides may require adjustments to your itinerary. Good agility, balance, and strength are needed for possible rough seas when onboard your ship or Zodiacs.
  • Port clearances: Since the Corinthian is an international ship, travelers must be cleared by a country’s local port authorities before disembarking the ship. Port authorities don’t usually inspect each traveler’s passports, but they may do a full inspection of the ship, so sometimes this clearance may take a while.
