After breakfast today, we tour the village of Harran, where Abraham is said to have lived nearly 4,000 years ago. We then return to Urfa, where we’ll have time for lunch on our own before exploring its Arab Quarter and Old Town. The rest of your day is at leisure, and dinner is on your own this evening.

We drive to Mount Nemrut, stopping along the way to visit the controversial Ataturk Dam on the Euphrates. After lunch on our own, we explore Mount Nemrut—a UNESCO World Heritage Site—where the Armenian king Antiochus I ordered huge statues built in honor of himself and the gods. The massive stone heads on the hillside—all that remain of his once-magnificent tribute to Hercules, Zeus and others—have become one of the most recognized symbols of Eastern Turkey. Tonight, we dine together in Urfa.
