We depart the U.S. on an overnight flight to Amsterdam. Here, we'll board our connecting flight to Nairobi, Kenya.
We arrive in Nairobi in the evening. An OAT representative will greet us, and help us transfer to our hotel, where we’ll enjoy a Welcome Drink and a short briefing. Dinner is on our own tonight.
We enjoy breakfast at the hotel and then have the morning at leisure before departing for the airport and the short flight to the Masai Mara. Upon arrival, we’ll enjoy an afternoon game-viewing drive en route to our accommodations for the night. The wildlife in the Mara is varied and wonderful: elephant, rhinoceros, lion, hyena, zebra, wildebeest, Thomson’s and Grant’s gazelle, topi, and Cape buffalo.
We check in to our permanent tented camp bordering the Mara later this afternoon. Dinner is at our camp tonight.
Begin today with an optional hot-air balloon safari. Rise before dawn in order to catch the sweeping vista of the morning light over Masai Mara. View the game reserve from a bird’s-eye perspective as you gently float for an hour over the grassy plains. Celebrate touchdown with a picnic breakfast in the bush (complete with Champagne), before returning to camp mid-morning.
Or join us for a morning game-viewing drive. The Mara is considered one of the great natural wonders of Africa. Here you are likely to see great herds of elephants foraging among the clumps of trees that dot the grasslands, or large predators such as lions and leopards. Crocodiles linger on the riverbank looking for unwary prey, while wildebeest and zebra migrate through the plains.
We return to our camp for lunch, where you’ll have time to relax and contemplate our morning’s adventure. Later this afternoon, we all head out again for our afternoon game-viewing drive. Dinner is at the camp tonight.
We rise early for breakfast and then depart for a full-day game-viewing drive. Wildlife in the Masai Mara is so abundant and so varied that you will find the early hours bring game-sighting quite different from the drives later in the day. In particular, be alert for many of the bird species that inhabit this wilderness.
We enjoy a picnic lunch out in the African bush and then resume our game-viewing drive. Dinner is at our camp this evening.
We rise early for breakfast and then enjoy a full morning game-viewing drive in the midst of the Masai Mara before returning for a final lunch at our camp. In the mid-afternoon we fly to Nairobi for our connecting flight to Arusha where we'll join Day 2 of Safari Serengeti: Tanzania Lodge & Tented Safari.
