Giving Back to the World We Travel
Overseas Adventure Travel, through the Overseas Adventure Foundation, has a long history of giving back to the people and places we visit. Our goal is to contribute something of lasting value by investing in the future through the education of young people and the preservation of cultural treasures and traditions.
The Foundation has donated more than $31 million throughout the world in locations including Africa, Asia, South Pacific, Europe and the Americas. Many of the projects the Foundation supports are, quite literally, in the path of our travelers. By traveling with OAT, you help make these worthy efforts possible.
Day in the Life Initiative
In 2005, the Foundation launched the World Classroom program. Our most ambitious initiative at the time, it earmarked $10 million over 5 years to support youth education and community engagement. Now with investments in nearly 100 schools around the world, the Foundation’s next phase to further broaden our engagement is the Day in the Life Initiative.
The Day in the Life Initiative will take our travelers beyond the classroom into the homes and communities of our students. You’ll see where they live, meet their families, share their traditions, learn how they make a living, and maybe help them do so by patronizing the studios, farms, and markets they operate.
Our goal is two-fold: to give our travelers a richer, more authentic and personal view of community life through the eyes of locals; and to help those communities by developing sustainable industries and preserving indigenous arts and traditions.
Establishing these connections between our Foundation sites and the local communities will build partnerships, provide impactful experiences, and most importantly, give back to the world we travel.
