Customize your trip

With our True Choice Program, you can choose to stay longer before or after your trip on your own, or combine two adventures to maximize your value. Here are more ways to create the OAT adventure that’s right for you:

  • Choose our standard air routing, or work with us to select the airline and routing you prefer
  • Make your own international flight arrangements directly with the airline, applying frequent flyer miles if available
  • Stay overnight in a connecting city before or after your trip
  • Request to arrive a few days early to get a fresh start on your adventure
  • Choose to “break away” before or after your trip, spending additional days or weeks on your own
  • Extend your adventure with our optional pre- and post-trip extensions
  • Combine your choice of OAT adventures to maximize your value
  • Upgrade to business or premium economy class

The air options listed above will involve an additional fee of $100 per person for confirmed requests (as well as incremental airfare costs based on your specific choice). This service fee will be waived for Inner Circle/Sir Edmund Hillary Club members.

Or, when you make your reservation, you can choose our standard air routing, for which approximate travel times are shown below.

Pre-Trip: South Africa: Kruger National Park

4 nights from only $1395
T17096

Stretching 220 miles along South Africa’s northeastern border, Kruger National Park is roughly the size of Wales. Nearly unequaled in its richness of animal life, Kruger boasts herds of elephant, buffalo, lion, and giraffe, along with more obscure species such as eland. You’ll stay in the northern section of the park, an uncrowded wilderness dotted with baobab trees and blessed with outstanding birdlife. Enjoy more full days to explore and nights to relax in your comfortable tented camp.

Single Supplement: FREE.

Please note: This extension only available on select departures. Ask your Adventure Specialist for details.

It's Included

  • Private charter airfare from Johannesburg to Kruger National Park
  • Accommodations for 1 night in Johannesburg and 3 nights in Kruger National Park
  • 10 meals—4 breakfasts, 3 lunches, and 3 dinners
  • 6 small group activities
  • Services of expert driver-guides and camp staff
  • All transfers
Day 1
Depart U.S.

You depart from the U.S. on an overnight flight to Johannesburg, South Africa.

Day 2
Arrive in Johannesburg, South Africa

Today, arrive in Johannesburg, South Africa. You will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 3
Fly to Kruger National Park

This morning, you will be met by a representative of a private charter air company, who will escort you to your charter aircraft for your flight to Kruger National Park. We will be transferred from the airstrip to the camp on arrival. We stay in Pafuri in the less-crowded northern corner of the park. This area features three vegetation zones—the sandveld, Mopani shrubveld, and along river edges, the alluvial plains. In this arid area, mopane trees stand out in their adaptability to the local climate, and are a fundamental feature of the landscape. You will see venerable baobabs, as well. In the late afternoon after lunch and a siesta, we embark on our first game-viewing drive. Here we may spot herds of elephant and buffalo, antelope, nyala, and eland. Historically, this park has been home to some of the largest elephants in Africa, and there's a wide variety of game we're likely to encounter.

Your game-viewing drives will led by knowledgeable guides who know the best locations for viewing, and will be pleased to point out highlights.

Day 4
Enjoy game-viewing drives

This morning, you can relax or explore locally. The middle of your day is free and we enjoy another game-viewing drive in the afternoon. You may want to change your focus and start looking up: Bustards, bee-eaters, eagles, and vultures are common in this area. Take in the park's natural beauty and its diverse wildlife, or simply take the opportunity to relax in camp and review your field guide.

Day 5
Enjoy game-viewing drives

Today, we enjoy the choice of a morning game-viewing drive or walk. Be on the lookout for animals less common to this area: leopard, caracal, and bat-eared fox. After brunch, we’ll have the rest of the morning and the early afternoon at leisure. After tea, you’ll enjoy an afternoon game-viewing drive with sundowners as your final evening exploration of this park.

Day 6
Enjoy game-viewing drive/Fly to Johannesburg/Meet the main group

After breakfast this morning, take one last game-viewing drive before flying to Johannesburg to begin your Ultimate Africa: Botswana, Zambia & Zimbabwe Safari adventure. You’ll arrive at your hotel in the mid-afternoon and have ample time to settle in.
