Photos From Our Travelers
On location in South America
Here’s how OAT travelers have captured moments of discovery, beauty, friendship, and fun on previous departures of our The Wilderness Beyond: Patagonia, Tierra del Fuego & the Chilean Fjords adventure. We hope these will evoke special travel memories and inspire you to submit your own favorite OAT trip photos.
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Los Glaciares National Park in Argentina encompasses vast icefields and 47 major glaciers, which feed two large lakes. John Youker captured his wife, Barbara, admiring the spectacle of ice, mountains, and water. The 20-time travelers are from South Glens Falls, New York.
Exhilarated, this group of intrepid hikers reached a breathtaking overlook of Los Cuernos (“the horns”), which rise more than 8,000 feet in Torres del Paine National Park. Peter Hallett, 4-time traveler from South Hamilton, Massachusetts, found the backdrop picture-perfect.
The magnificent Pia Glacier dwarfs adventurers on a shore excursion into the Beagle Channel (named after Darwin’s expedition ship). John Youker, 20-time traveler from Glenn Falls, New York, focuses on nature’s grand scale.
Embodying the drama, pride, and attitude of tango, this Buenos Aires dancer struck just the right pose for Richard Newlin, a 2-time traveler from Troy, Michigan.
Making their way to the Cape Horn Monument, OAT hikers follow the wooden walkway that protects the fragile tundra. Photographer Richard Newlin, 2-time traveler from Troy, Michigan, brings up the rear to capture the scene. The moving sculpture is a tribute to the multitudes of shipwrecked souls who lost their way in the infamous storms that battered the Cape.
