  • Make your own international flight arrangements directly with the airline, applying frequent flyer miles if available

  • Request to arrive a few days early to get a fresh start on your adventure
  • Choose to “break away” before or after your trip, spending additional days or weeks on your own
  • Extend your adventure with our optional pre- and post-trip extensions
  • Combine your choice of OAT adventures to maximize your value
  • Upgrade to business or premium economy class

"Godliving is a remarkably fine guide. He is intelligent, cheerful, and always helpful—a perfect gentleman. I especially enjoyed his observations about life in Tanzania and cultural traditions (old and new), as well as the fact that he introduced us to his wife and brother the day after we arrived."

Get to know Godliving:

I feel really privileged to have grown up in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro. It really allowed me to learn about the natural wonders and the diverse species found in Tanzania from a very young age. My family ran a coffee farm, which was surrounded by a forest where lots of monkeys lived, and in grade school my friend had a monkey as a pet, so I decided to adopt a baby monkey as well. I named him Mr. Dizzy, and he was like a part of family—for twelve years!

My parents wanted me to become a doctor, but my interest in nature and animals was too strong, so I chose to pursue a degree in Wildlife Management instead, which provided a good education in the regional animals and their behavior. At first, my parents didn’t understand, but once they saw how serious and determined I was, they became very supportive.

For me, it’s an honor to share my knowledge of Tanzania with OAT travelers—I have a lot of pride in my family and my people. There are so many amazing things to discover, even for me—you never know what the next game-viewing drive will bring.

Godliving’s Insider Tips:

Unique Food & Drink:
My tribe, the Chagga, are known for drinking banana wine. Traditionally, it’s referred to as kibo—which is also the name of one of the three peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro. Originally this wine was reserved for special occasions, especially weddings. However, now you can find different brands, such as Malkia and Meru, in most stores. Many visitors bring a bottle home to share with friends and family. Another beverage we enjoy ismbege, banana beer, which is found throughout the northern part of Tanzania.

Native Wilderness & Wildlife:
People who witness the dramatic wildebeest migration of the Serengeti will never forget this memory. As the seasons change, the wildebeest follow them, looking for greener lands in order to survive. About 1.5 million wildebeest take part in this migration every year, and at the high point on the birthing season—from February through May—there are about 8,000 wildebeest babies being born every day.
