Customize your trip

With our True Choice Program, you can choose to stay longer before or after your trip on your own, or combine two adventures to maximize your value. Here are more ways to create the OAT adventure that’s right for you:

  • Choose our standard air routing, or work with us to select the airline and routing you prefer
  • Make your own international flight arrangements directly with the airline, applying frequent flyer miles if available
  • Stay overnight in a connecting city before or after your trip
  • Request to arrive a few days early to get a fresh start on your adventure
  • Choose to “break away” before or after your trip, spending additional days or weeks on your own
  • Extend your adventure with our optional pre- and post-trip extensions
  • Combine your choice of OAT adventures to maximize your value
  • Upgrade to business or premium economy class

The air options listed above will involve an additional fee of $100 per person for confirmed requests (as well as incremental airfare costs based on your specific choice). This service fee will be waived for Inner Circle/Sir Edmund Hillary Club members.

Or, when you make your reservation, you can choose our standard air routing, for which approximate travel times are shown below.

Supporting a World Classroom: Chile

By seeing how children are educated all over the world, we gain a rare understanding of different cultural values—as well as the common values that unite us all. That's why, providing that school is in session, your itinerary includes a visit to the local school featured below, which is supported by Grand Circle Foundation.

"Our visit to Quel Quel school was inspirational … It was very gratifying to see what they have built with the money they received from the Foundation. They are able to do so much with so little additional help and they are so appreciative of this program. As a Professor of Education, this was especially meaningful to me and I (as well as many others) made a personal contribution to augment what the Foundation provides."

Quel Quel Rural School

Partner since: 2010 Total donated: $3,300

Chile, Quel Quel village, Quel Quel School, PAX and students in the classroom, GCF Foundation site

The Quel Quel Rural School serves to educate and feed a group of 18 children—ages 6-12—who live in this rural community near Castro, the capital of Chiloé Island. The school is free to attend, and receives some support from the Chilean government. Grand Circle Foundation began partnering with this school in 2010, and has been assisting with several projects at the school. One such project was the school’s fogon, a gathering space built around a bonfire pit, used for traditional celebrations, community workshops, and children's birthdays. Foundation support has assisted construction of the fogon's walls and floors, installation of water and electrical lines, and furnishing the structure with benches and dishes. The Foundation has also renovated the playground and soccer field, and created a computer work center for the school.

School in session:

Year-round, with vacation period from mid-December through mid-March

Gifts to bring if you're visiting:

  • Shoes
  • Clothing
  • Pens and pencils
  • Books

Alan and Harriet Lewis founded Grand Circle Foundation in 1992 as a means of giving back to the world we travel. Because they donate a portion of the profits from every trip, we consider each one of our travelers as a partner in the Foundation’s work around the world. To date, the Foundation has pledged or donated more than $91 million in support of 300 different organizations—including 60 villages and nearly 100 schools that lie in the paths of our adventures.
