A group of retired teachers enjoys the natural and cultural beauty of Peru
By Ray Colton, 3-time traveler, Fayetteville, New York
The group that my wife Gloria and I travel with began in 1996 with three couples—five members of whom are teachers—who decided that we wanted to travel during our February breaks. Three rules were established: The destination must be warm, the cost had to be reasonable, and friends or relatives were welcome to come along.
Our first trip was a Baja cruise off of the western coast of Mexico, and we’ve since traveled to Costa Rica, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Argentina, Spain, Portugal, Egypt, Greece, Turkey, Peru, Scandinavia, and Africa.
We decided to travel with OAT for our adventures to Peru and Africa because of the excellent recommendations we’d received from friends who had traveled with OAT, and raved about the unique immersion into the cultures of the countries visited, its active itineraries, and knowledgeable Trip Leaders. And since our group went on that first trip with OAT, we’ve been more than satisfied.
Needless to say, Gloria and I enjoy OAT for its great Trip Leaders and commitment to helping the people who live in the regions we travel. Here is a selection of images from our exciting adventures to Peru. The photos display some of the diverse activities Gloria and I were able to experience:
Gloria Colton takes part in a healing ritual in Cuzco.
Traveler Margaret Damge shows off one of the piranha she caught.
Traveler Elaine Brown tries her hand at a blowpipe. She even hit the target!
Traveler Carol Boyer walks in the treetops. Ray’s group had a great view of the rain forest from this height.
Ray and Gloria in the Sacred Valley.
Hiking along a trail in the Sacred Valley. Fellow traveler Carol Boyer led the group.
