OAT’s Artemis hotel manager shares some of the camaraderie-building activities travelers can enjoy aboard the ship
By Zoran Jacimovic, Hotel Manager, M/V Artemis
I never imagined that my decision to join the staff of the M/V Artemis three years ago would completely change my life—and open up a whole new world to me. During this time, I’ve met fascinating people, and formed lasting memories and friendships that I will always hold close.
Zoran Jacimovic is the hotel manager for the M/V Artemis.
As hotel manager for the M/V Artemis, it’s my job to make sure every OAT traveler has the most enjoyable experience they can aboard our ship during their Mediterranean and Adriatic Small Ship Adventures. If you’ve ever traveled on the Artemis with OAT, you’ll probably remember me—or at least my large ears, which are two of my most notable features. Our captain likes to joke that during safety drills, I need to remain inside, or I’d otherwise fly away during strong winds.
From the moment I began working on the Artemis, I felt as though I belonged there. I was immediately impressed with the elegance of the ship, and the congenial interactions between the crew and guests. The ship staff knew all of the travelers by name, along with their special needs. In turn, travelers called the ship staff by name, so it reminded me of one, happy family.
The Artemis staff plans a Greek night for OAT travelers during their stay on the island of Corfu. Dancers come aboard the ship and display traditional dances.
I treasure each and every memory from the time I’ve spent as the ship’s hotel manager—but my favorite moments are the special entertainment and activities we plan for our OAT travelers onboard the ship.
I remember celebrating the birthday of one of our travelers with the help of our entire staff. Each person played a different instrument: The hospitality staff played guitars, the waiters were on the drums, and the cooks played on metal pots. Everyone got a kick out of the impromptu band, and although our staff members aren’t professional musicians, the birthday boy couldn’t have been more appreciative.
And I’ll never forget the morning I reported to my office for duty and found one of our travelers seated at my desk in my hotel manager’s uniform. He turned to me and said, “Go clean the buffet!” I was slightly taken aback, but the traveler just laughed and reminded me that he had won first prize during the ship’s game night the night before. First prize was serving as hotel manager for a day. What a sigh of relief that I wasn’t replaced!
The Artemis ship staff shows off their scarier side as they prepare a Halloween party for OAT travelers.
The Artemis holds a very special place in my life. During my three years aboard, I’ve come across the most enjoyable people. Some of the travelers I’ve met have returned to the ship several times since their first adventure because, they explain, once they returned home, they realized how much fun they had while on the ship. I’m really blessed that life gave me the chance to be a part of this story. If you’re considering traveling on the M/V Artemis with OAT, you can rest assured knowing that this ship never sleeps and the fun never stops. Come join us soon!
