OAT associates celebrate company values with a special day-long retreat
In 1992, OAT’s sister company, Grand Circle, held its very first BusinessWorks—a comprehensive business, leadership, and values program for our associates—on Thompson Island in Boston. The main goal of BusinessWorks is to help our associates learn something about themselves, about their performance, and about the business. We hope that these learnings can be brought back to their jobs, homes, and communities.
We designed BusinessWorks so that our associates could experience our values through action learning. These include “high initiatives,” like working in pairs to traverse a wire suspended across two trees, or “water initiatives,” where teams work together to build a raft to cross a lake.
On June 11, we closed our Boston office for the day so that all of our associates could participate in BusinessWorks 2010. More than 60 regional associates from around the world joined our Boston-based associates in Kensington, New Hampshire, for this special day. Worldwide regional associates joined OAT Boston-based associates for BusinessWorks 2010.
As associates arrived in New Hampshire, they were greeted by OAT’s executive and leadership team, along with regional associates from around the world.
OAT associates from our Boston headquarters challenged OAT’s regional associates to a soccer game. With Alan Lewis serving as goalie, the Boston team defeated the worldwide team with a score of 2-0.
Some groups participated in a “water initiative,” where each team had to build a raft using rope, blue barrels, and plastic poles.

One of the main goals of BusinessWorks is to push OAT associates to take one more step than they thought they could.
