Businessman honored for commitment to social change at annual Corporate Citizenship Summit
On September 11, 2009, Grand Circle Foundation presented its CEO Social Leadership Award to Joel Lamstein at the Boston Business Journal’s annual Corporate Citizenship Summit.
The award, which the Foundation established in 2006, recognizes a CEO who has made significant contributions to social change in Greater Boston, and includes a $25,000 donation to a non-profit organization of the recipient’s choice.
As Martha Prybylo, OAT’s Executive Vice President for People & Culture and Corporate Philanthropy, explains, “The intent of this award is really to be able to recognize, honor, and celebrate those CEOs in our community who are playing a big role in making big changes happen in our communities.”
Lamstein is co-founder and president of John Snow Inc. (JSI), an international public health consulting firm based in Boston. Founded in 1978, JSI now has more than 1,600 people stationed in the U.S. and throughout the world working to enhance the lives of underserved and vulnerable populations. Lamstein is also president of World Education, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of the poor through education, economic, and social development programs.
Prybylo, who presented the award to Lamstein during the Summit, notes, “We salute Joel for his inspirational work in health care and education, both here in Boston and worldwide, and for contributing his resources and skills to help make life better for others."
