One traveler’s special way of thanking those who provide the comforts of home
At OAT, we don’t just want you to see a country’s celebrated landmarks—we want you to immerse yourself in local culture so you can experience for yourself what daily life is like.
That’s why we include home-hosted visits on almost all of our adventures—and our travelers often tell me that these experiences are usually the highlights of their trips. These encounters not only allow you to relax and savor delicious local cuisine, they also allow for intimate, meaningful conversations with the families welcoming you into their homes.
Since these visits are so unique and personal, OAT travelers often want to express their gratitude to their hosts for their gracious welcome. And Anne Hruza, a 22-time traveler from Brick, New Jersey, has come up with a wonderfully inspired thank-you gift: She creates beautiful watercolor paintings of each home she visits ... and presents them to her hosts during their time together. What a creative way to say thank you!
See some of Anne’s paintings—and read about what prompted her to produce these specials gifts—in our Traveler Stories.
Have you been similarly inspired to present a special gift to your hosts during your own travels? If so, I’d love to hear about them. Share your stories by posting comments below, or emailing me at harriet@oattravel.com.
