Morocco: Some goats are luckier than others
I had heard stories about the tree-climbing goats of Morocco, but it’s something you really can’t envision until you experience it in person. These goats—which looked pretty much like regular goats to me—literally climb into the branches of the Argan tree near Essaouira in order to feast on the berries that grow there. Don’t believe me? Here’s photographic proof:
The tree-climbing goats are just one of my favorite examples of Morocco’s exoticism—from the beautiful colors of the gemstones and jewelry to the savory scents that float through the souks of Marrakesh. Speaking of goats, we came across giant pots of simmering goats’ heads in the marketplace—and of course Alan had to try some. (Don’t worry—I’ll spare you the photographic evidence of that one.)
What destinations come to mind when you hear the word “exotic”? Send your stories to

I’ll be featuring the Adriatic—including Greece, Croatia, and beyond—next in Harriet’s Corner, but I’d love to hear all of your stories.
