Listening to wit and wisdom of our fellow travelers
As you know, listening to our travelers is an integral part of how OAT does business, and we’re proud of that. Whether it’s recounting those beloved—often inspirational—traveler stories we receive online and by mail throughout the year, seeking our most loyal travelers’ votes on potential new destinations to visit, or even distributing surveys to our travelers following each adventure, your ideas and feedback help us create the journeys you want to take and make OAT the company you want travel with.
As a traveler myself, I like to find out as much as I can about the culture, history, and people of those places I visit—by reading, seeing films, going to museum exhibitions, talking to our Trip Leaders, and tapping into other travelers’ experiences. So as we launch our new adventure in Turkey—a culturally rich country I’ve traveled to several times, but am excited to visit again—I’ve started a new personal reading list. One book on my “Turkey list” that I’m especially looking forward to is Travelers’ Tales Turkey: True Stories (edited by James Villars, Jr.), featuring entertaining, real-life travel stories recalled by notable authors, such as Mary Lee Settle and Tim Cahill. Since it came highly recommended to me by one of our Boston associates —and I know what a treasure trove of history, culture, and hospitality Turkey is—I can hardly wait to curl up on the couch with this book …
Do you have any good recommendations for books about Turkey—or any stories about traveling there with OAT? If so, you can share your suggestions and experiences with your fellow travelers below this Journal entry, or you can email me directly at harriet@oattravel.com.
In the coming weeks, we’ll spotlight Japan and India. If you’ve explored either of these fascinating destinations on an OAT adventure—or on your own—I hope you’ll send your stories and pictures to me at harriet@oattravel.com.
