I’ve been fortunate enough to travel my whole life and to work in the travel business for 25 years—and I still find it daunting to decide where to go next. Do I go someplace completely new? Or is it time to return to an old favorite? Below, I share some fond memories of my most cherished destinations—which also happen to be extremely popular with OAT’s women travelers.
Egypt
I’ve been to Egypt many times, but there’s one experience I’ll never repeat: I once suggested that Alan allow a barber in a souk to give him a haircut. I’m still living that down; let’s just say it wasn’t the best look for him. The barber, however—like so many people I’ve met in Egypt—was just delightful. It’s the fascinating culture of Egypt that draws me back again and again—and, of course, the antiquities must be seen to be believed.
India
You’ll find every one of your senses constantly engaged in India—the subcontinent is a dazzling whirlwind of sights, sounds, tastes, and smells. And no, not all of them are pleasant by our typical standards, but this in itself is why I love India: I tested the limits of my comfort zone and ended up expanding my horizons beyond imagination. Much of this is due to the warmth of the people and their intense, infectious spirituality. India is the ultimate journey for the mind, body, and soul.
Morocco
Alan and I once visited a Berber home in Morocco. I remember the man who hosted us had built the house with his son, and he was so proud of his cement walls and the light bulb hanging from the ceiling—and what little he had to offer was readily shared with us in the huge tagine we had for lunch. Morocco is filled with wonderful people, from the wild exoticism of Marrakesh to the solitude at the edge of the desert—and it is filled with beauty, too, from souks that dazzle with silver, red saffron, and golden turmeric to the great dunes of the Sahara.

"This is the greatest trip with the best tour guide ever. Our guide Ash was very knowledgable, organized (everything ran smoothly), very friendly and made everyone feel included in the group. The different sites we saw were great, there is so much history there. I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to come to Egypt and learn about this country with so many great people (staff and other travelers). The Nile cruise was fun and the staff on board was the best. Everyone was friendly and we hated leaving the boat."

"This was my 6th OAT/GCT trip, and was unique. Although I've been to other 3rd world countries, I feel that I 'experienced' India more than the others. We saw various parts of the country, yet found that although there were certain differences, a common thread was there throughout. The dynamic colors of the saris, the scents of the flowers, the variety of people, the incense wafting through the air, the music, and the animals roaming the streets all added up to a feast for the senses. Our guide, Anaurag, was the icing on the cake!"

“In 1973, I spent three months in Morocco. I traveled around the country in one of those old long-wheel-base Land Rovers. Trust me when I tell you that I saw more of Morocco in two weeks with OAT than I saw in three months when I traveled on my own.
This trip is fantastic!! You will traverse the country and experience its beautiful coastline, its majestic mountain ranges, its deep mysterious gorges as well as its incredible desert. You will see modern cities, farming communities, ancient ruins, Berber villages, and nomad's encampments. Best of all, you will actually get to go into people's homes in all of these diverse settings in order to see how they live and taste what they eat.
If the word "exotic" excites you, then take this trip!”
